ABOUT THIS ROLE

We’re working with an innovative and fast growing pharmaceutical company who are on the lookout for a Laboratory and Facilities Manager who will provide a wide range of laboratory, facility, and health & safety management activities. The successful candidate will liaise with the scientific function heads and Campus landlord and support future site modification or potential relocation. More broadly the role & team are part of the Operations group who have the exciting remit to establish the company’s commitment to agile working which includes supporting some of our operational requirements in other locations outside of the UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Building and Facilities Management:

· Maintain the UK facility, anticipating and resolving future and day to day snagging issues

· Manage the relationship with the Campus landlord and any relevant contractors

· Co-ordinate the efficient use of laboratory and agile workspaces

· Manage contracts for general office services for the UK site & other global locations where services are required

· Set the budget for the year and work with finance to keep track of spending

· Manage domestic and international shipping, ensuring staff are aware of relevant procedures

Laboratory Support Services Management:

· Manage the laboratory support team (2 reports) to ensure effective and timely service delivery of laboratory support to

our scientific staff (buffers, media, plates and reagents; washing-up and autoclaving of glassware; restocking of

consumables)

· Proactively co-ordinate with the scientific teams to ensure that laboratories are equipped and maintained appropriately

for the scientific tasks required.

· Generate SOPs and procedures to constantly improve the laboratory support service

Equipment and Asset Management:

· Negotiate maintenance and service contracts

· Coordinate service plans and communicate with engineers and staff to deliver

· Negotiate and purchase capex equipment

Laboratory Purchasing:

· Accountable for ordering of consumables, reagents, and equipment, checking in delivered goods and archiving delivery

notes

· Liaise with the Finance team and Amici (procurement) to ensure optimum pricing and delivery to cost/schedule

· Support the finance team with invoice reconciliations

· Provide staff with Amici training and admin support

Health & Safety and Biosafety:

· Act in the role of Company H&S Officer

· Coordinate with the Health & Safety team to ensure the laboratories are run in accordance with company’s policies.

· Ensure all H&S documentation and training is managed effectively and kept up to date, including licenses, permissions,

documents, laboratory & fire safety training etc, in conjunction with other members of the laboratory Support team

· Ensure biological incidents (e.g. spills) are reported and investigated

· Co-ordinate the Occupational Health screening program

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Essential

· Experience of working in a biotech/ pharmaceutical setting with demonstrable experience in a management capacity within laboratory/facilities settings

· BSc, or equivalent, ideally in a biomedical sciences subject · Strong negotiation & project management skills

· Diligent in documenting work and adherence to protocols

· Knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing and good level of PC skills

Desirable

· NEBOSH Certificate and qualified first aider

· Biological safety certification or relevant experience

· A formal qualification /accreditation in Facilities or Operations Management

· Practical experience in solutions and media preparation ·
